This CIPD Level 3 Certificate qualification provides you with a deep understanding in all areas of learning and development, essential skills and gives you the confidence to be an effective L&D practitioner.
The CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in L&D consists of six units:
- Becoming an Effective Learning and Development Practitioner
- Learning and Development and the Organisation
- Identifying Learning and Development Needs
- Designing Learning and Development Activities
- Delivering Learning and Development Activities
- Evaluating Learning and Development Activities
The CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Learning & Development qualification is delivered using a blended learning approach. MOL’s blended learning is a mixture of online distance learning via our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), supporting course textbooks, face-to-face workshops, assessments and tutor support throughout your learning journey.

The CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Learning & Development offers an introduction to the key aspects of L&D practice, and provides a solid foundation if you are just starting out in your L&D career, working in a role that supports the L&D function and looking to develop your skills and knowledge or looking to further your L&D career with a professional qualification.
You’ll benefit from our proven blend of learning methods, including face-to-face group workshops with a clear workplace application facilitated by an experienced practitioner tutor. We’ll also give you comprehensive self-study materials including bespoke text books and electronic content with activities accessed on the virtual learning environment (VLE).
You will also receive a learner guide designed to support your study journey, and support from your tutor, both online and on the phone.
Our workshops are clearly focused on knowledge and skills you can take straight into your workplace. Your MOL tutor will encourage discussions that help you get the most from the material. We select knowledgeable HR professionals to support and inspire you throughout the programme.
To successfully complete this qualification you’ll need to attend all the face-to-face workshops, log your progress, learning and development in your e-portfolio (electronic portfolio), take part in all the online collaborative activities, and successfully complete all assessment work.
We’ll assess you through short written assignments, practical skills demonstrations, your e-portfolio, which logs your learner journey.
The programme has no exams, and your MOL tutor will be on hand to support you, online and over the phone, through your assessments.
Once you’ve passed all the units, you’ll receive a CIPD Foundation Certificate in Learning and Development awarded by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development
This Foundation Certificate is designed to reflect the new CIPD professional standards and membership criteria. Successful completion will give you the underpinning knowledge to apply for Associate Membership of CIPD (Assoc CIPD). This is a professional grade of membership recognising the skill, knowledge and approach needed to make a significant supporting contribution and deliver excellent results in the workplace.
It takes 6 months to complete the programme. You’ll attend six face-to-face group workshops with a break of four to six weeks between each. In these breaks you’ll stay in contact with your tutor and fellow learners via phone tutorials, webinars and the VLE. We’ve structured our programme and learning materials so you can learn on the go and in your own time.
The course fee is £2,350. MOL does not charge VAT for this programme. The fee includes workshops, expert tutor support, online materials and activities, textbooks and written materials. It doesn’t include membership of the CIPD (which is payable directly to CIPD and is mandatory for this programme).
