CIPR Foundation Award in Public Relations
Gain the fundamental knowledge and PR skills needed to begin a career as a PR professional. The CIPR Foundation Award in Public Relations is a fully online programme which introduces the role of a PR professional, how to work with the media, what makes a great news story and how to write effectively for online and offline channels.
The CIPR Foundation Award in Public Relations consists of three units:
- Unit 1 - Distinguishing PR activities
- Unit 2 - Writing for news media and online audiences
- Unit 3 - Ethics and the PR professional
There is a 3-hour examination involving a report, a news release/blog post exercise and an essay covering all three units of the Award.
Once completed you’ll be able to understand the role of the PR professional, work with key PR terms, work within the CIPR Code of Ethics, know how to write a press release and know how and when place a news release and to use social media.

Our CIPR PR Foundation Award is ideal if you want an introduction to PR or have just started working in:
- events management
This programme is delivered online. You will have support from a tutor with a wealth of experience in PR, and have contact with a group of peers throughout your course. You will take part in online activities with your group, such as wikipages, group forum discussions and social media.
After completing this programme, you’ll gain a CIPR Foundation Award in PR. You’ll be able to apply for CIPR Membership and CIPR courses at a higher level. There are a number of career paths you could take after completing the qualification, including a role in a PR agency or as a PR consultant, assistant to a PR manager, or as a marketing officer. CIPR awards the qualification. CIPR is the recognised professional body of the PR industry.
It will take up to six weeks to complete the Foundation Award.
For applications submitted on or after 01/01/16, the cost of the programme will be £995.
