Charlotte Carew-Gibbs, HR Assistant for GP Bullhound, spoke with fellow human resources professionals about her desire to attain a CIPD qualification and MOL was recommended.
On reflection, Charlotte is pleased she listened to her peers and her subsequent experience has made her a strong advocate of professional learning and personal development.
After studying French and Spanish at the University of the West of England Charlotte got a job as a French speaking Media and Sales Representative for an agency. After nine months with the business she decided to take on a new challenge and joined GP Bullhound as Personal Assistant to two of the organisations senior members of staff, which incorporated some human resources administrative responsibilities.
At the time the growing business did not have a dedicated human resources function, which created an opportunity for Charlotte to become a full time human resources professional. As part of her new role she was given the option to study a relevant professional qualification, which is when Charlotte became aware of CIPD and MOL.
After finishing the CIPD Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Human Resource Practice with MOL Charlotte decided that she’d like to continue with her studies and has since successfully completed the Level 5 Intermediate Diploma, again with MOL.
Charlotte said: “Professional learning appeals to me because I can combine my studies with working full time, but the only way I can do both things successfully is by being self-disciplined and organised.
One of the reasons I chose MOL was the option to combine studying online with classroom based learning. I found myself looking forward to the workshops, which took place once a month. I thoroughly enjoyed learning from the other students on my course, it was interesting to hear about their experiences of the profession.
When asked what she has learnt and how this could help prospective students Charlotte said: “I’d reassure people that MOL make things as easy as possible and appreciate that everyone’s situation is different. It was challenging at times, but I had my employers support and I planned ahead. I would block out time at the weekend to focus on my assignments.
“I’d tell any prospective students that I intend to continue developing my knowledge and skills. As a result, I’m considering enrolling myself on the CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management, if this isn’t a strong enough endorsement of my experience, I don’t know what is.”
