Michelle Hazeldine’s career was set on an upward trajectory, and after choosing MOL her prospects have really taken off.
In her role as National Learning and Development Co-ordinator for toy retail chain The Entertainer, Michelle needed to broaden her knowledge of learning and development practices and opted to study for the CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Learning and Development Practice .
Time was a critical element for the 42-year-old. With more than 100 stores nationwide, Michelle needed a course which would fit into her hectic work schedule, while still providing her with the knowledge she required. She said: “I liked the fact that it was one day per month, which gave me the chance to go away and think about what I’d learnt.”
Michelle added: “I liked the pace of the course. I never felt that I was cramming desperately to meet the next deadline – there was always plenty of time between projects to learn thoroughly.
“It was particularly useful to have access to online resources from MOL and The Manchester College . My tutor also gave me extra information to help cement the learning. I found that very reassuring.”
The knowledge gained on her course has allowed Michelle to make an impact on her business. She said: “I have found it invaluable to understand how my role can make a difference to the other departments in the business, and how I can have an impact on something I wouldn’t have thought about before.
“I wanted to do the course because I didn’t have a firm grasp on how to perform data analysis, and that is a big part of my job. The course taught me a range of techniques in that area which I have since put into practice. Learning how to present data in a way that’s useful was particularly helpful.
“The best thing for me was that the course was incredibly relevant. I never felt that I was learning just to complete a piece of work for its own sake. Everything we did had a relevance to what I do in my job.”
Michelle has been singing MOL’s praises in her workplace. She concluded: “Since I completed my qualification, two people in The Entertainer’s HR department have started doing the HR part of the course. It’s definitely made a difference to the business.”
