A glittering night for HR professionals

The 2014 CIPD People Management Awards are the highlight of the HR calendar and MOL was there as the proud sponsor of two of the night’s most prestigious awards.

The glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in the heart of the capital was hosted by actor and comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar and celebrated the successes and achievements of HR professionals across the UK.

MOL not only supported the two Michael Kelly Outstanding Student Awards, Head of MOL Colin Gordon was also on the judging panel.

Speaking after the awards, Colin said: “MOL Training was proud to sponsor the two Michael Kelly Outstanding Student Awards at the prestigious CIPD People Management Awards at Grosvenor House on Park Lane. The awards are the definitely highlight of the HR calendar and we’re proud to be part of it.”

The overall winner on the night was Pentland Brands, which operates fashion and sportswear names from Berghaus to Speedo and Red or Dead. The third-generation family business took the coveted Best Employee Engagement Initiative award with their 2020 Strategic Framework, which the judges describes as “thoughtful and impressive”.

The Michael Kelly Outstanding Student Award – Intermediate and Foundation Level, sponsored by MOL, was presented to Claire Gibbons of Label Apeel Ltd, of whom the judges said: “There is no doubt what she learned has made a difference to the business.”

Chloe Watt of HSS Hire took the honours in the Michael Kelly Outstanding Student Award – Advanced Level category, sponsored by MOL. The “exceptional” CIPD student has now completed an MSc in HRM&D.

Other winners on the night included BBC South West, which won Best Change Management Initiative, Page Group took the Best Diversity Initiative crown, and Accenture won the Best Use of Technology category.

CIPD Chief Executive Peter Cheese said: “The 2014 CIPD People Management Awards,are a chance to highlight the remarkable work HR professionals are doing to improve the quality of work and working lives, and reflect the fact that organisations where people come first deliver better returns for shareholders, stakeholders and society.”
