HR expert joins MOL

Tue 30 Jan 2018

Gary Cookson

MOL has welcomed human resources (HR) professional Gary Cookson as an associate tutor for its CIPD Live Online programmes.

Gary brings a wealth of experience to MOL from a varied career that started as a secondary school teacher before making the move to learning and development, then HR. His most recent roles have been HR Director at a further education college and a government agency. In a career that he says has seen many highlights, Gary has led projects from restructures to mergers, revamping company culture and values to increasing employee engagement.

He says:

Everything I’ve done has been to make workplaces even more amazing and I’m proud of what I have
achieved.

James Dean, Commercial Director, MOL said: “We are delighted to welcome Gary to the team. His wealth of knowledge and experience will prove invaluable to the learners he will be working with. Gary is a fantastic addition to our dynamic and accomplished group of tutors, whose real-life experiences, knowledge and skills in their field of expertise, support our learners to achieve success and grow their careers.”

Speaking about joining MOL, Gary said: “I’ve been proud of mentoring and helping individuals through their HR and management careers for a long time now, and I get a lot of energy from seeing HR professionals improve their skills and knowledge, and helping them do that through tutoring. MOL has a great reputation, it is a forward-thinking business and its values are in line with my own. I like the way MOL works, and we can do great things together.”

Gary will deliver the CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resources – Live Online for MOL and met his first group of learners at the end of January. He said: “As well as using my academic and practical knowledge, experience and thoughts to help them understand how to apply their new skills and knowledge, as a family man I recognise the need to juggle different priorities. I appreciate - and fully support - the need for flexibility.” And looking at the importance of the CIPD qualification to the learners,

Gary added:

It’s a badge of recognition that you’ve achieved a standard and can uphold the values and principles of the profession. It’s licence to go out there and make the world of work a better place.
