Elizabeth brings almost 30 years of global experience.
All of our tutors at MOL are industry experts with a wealth of experience; bringing your learning to life using current examples of industry practice, and we’re introducing some of them in a series of Q&As.
Having been involved in the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) across the globe for almost thirty years, Elizabeth now teaches our Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management.
Find out more about her journey, and her passion for people, learning and development below.
Tell us about your experience in the industry and/or education.
I am an experienced academic in regional business schools, having been involved with CIPD since the mid 1990's. I enjoyed establishing CIPD programmes in Dubai and I’ve had numerous opportunities delivering in Europe and internationally.
I started my own business, an environmentally friendly design, manufacture, and retail enterprise with branded products, based on my observations of typical behavioural patterns.
I am also a former Prince’s Trust Business Mentor for local young people.
I worked for an international private sector organisation in recent years, with a successful business model and high performing people management practices. This company operated from a customer-focused, positive, solutions-orientated culture.
How and why did you get into teaching?
I moved into teaching from a training officer role after I completed my CIPD qualifications, which was an exciting time for me to stretch myself into professional programmes. This gave me the opportunity to support learners into the next stage in their professional career, which I thoroughly enjoy.
I had also been very involved with my regional CIPD branch in various elected roles and wished to extend that further by joining the regional teaching team.
Tell us why you're so passionate about your subject area.
People make the difference. Managing people is strategic and, following bespoke best practice, we can all see and be part of the effective results. This impacts positively for our external stakeholders, be they global or a local community of people, in a positive ripple effect. Similarly, we have a positive impact, internally as a team, when we understand and recognise the people contribution as a whole. Teamwork makes the dream work!
What is the best piece of advice you can give to students who are considering studying a professional qualification?
Approach your studies with enthusiasm and tenacity. It is a wonderful opportunity and a safe space to explore your analysis and critical thinking in a learning environment, which you can then translate into your practice.
Many learners are aspirational when starting the course and are seeking opportunities to stretch their competence to a strategic senior level. This is the ideal opportunity for you to do that with like-minded individuals and full support from your tutors, all of whom are keen and able to guide you in your chosen direction.
Enjoy the process. Give it your commitment and recognise the benefits of learning, growing and ultimately steering your career, with the outcome of pivotal importance - achieving CIPD membership.
