She took various vocational courses but didn’t consider herself ‘academic’. One MOL course later, Sarah – now a HR consultant – has seen her confidence grow and is about to start studying towards a degree.
Sarah always claimed to be 'hands-on' and not academic. "It looks like I maybe wrong! I moved to the United Arab Emirates in 2009 where I progressed from HR Officer to HR Manager with an international logistics company, eventually managing a team of 12. I returned to Scotland in 2014 and wanted to refresh my knowledge of UK employment law and the MOL course met my needs perfectly.
"You get the best of both worlds as you have structured workshops and realistic deadlines to meet that you can schedule around your work commitments. I've enjoyed every section of the course. Even when I thought I was already knowledgeable on a topic I learnt something new and even challenged my own way of thinking, which was fantastic. The great thing about workshops is you meet the same people each month, you bond, support and learn from each other as you progress.
"From the first workshop I have used my learning on an almost daily basis. It's amazing how quickly you start putting the knowledge gained into practice. I feel assured that I am giving my clients sound, credible advice now. I'm already starting to see some of this have a positive impact on my organisation."
I've signed up for a part-time degree this autumn which I wouldn't have dreamt of doing if it hadn't been for MOL. Thank you!
