A group of people are in an office meeting room. A man is stood at the front of the room in front of a screen, presenting to the others who are sat around the table.

From automating routine tasks to enhancing decision-making, AI is transforming the world of work.

While there’s no doubt this offers exciting opportunities, it also presents new challenges for managers and team leaders.

To thrive in this rapidly evolving environment, organisations need managers who can harness the potential of AI without losing the human touch. That’s where Chartered Management Institute (CMI) qualifications come in.

AI and management

According to the CMI, the most successful organisations will be those that combine digital innovation with people-centred leadership. Yes, AI can crunch data and generate insights at speed, but it’s people who must interpret those insights, act ethically, and lead teams through change.

The World Economic Forum’s ‘Future of Jobs Report 2023’ highlights this shift. It found that analytical thinking, leadership, and social influence are among the top skills prioritised by employers. Managers need to blend technical understanding with emotional intelligence and strategic thinking - a skillset that many haven’t formally developed.

Bridging the skills gap

CMI qualifications are designed to address this challenge. They equip managers with practical skills to lead confidently in a digital-first world, from managing innovation and change to building inclusive, agile teams.

For instance, the CMI Level 3 in Principles of Management and Leadership is ideal for aspiring or new managers looking to build a solid foundation in core areas such as managing team dynamics, setting objectives, and supporting change, which are all vital skills when adapting to AI-driven ways of working.

For those in more established management roles, the CMI Level 5 in Management and Leadership develops deeper capabilities in leading teams, operational planning, and driving innovation, helping managers integrate new technologies while maintaining strong, people-focused leadership.

Human leadership in a digital world

AI is fast and efficient, but it’s managers who innovate, build trust, guide teams, and make the ethical decisions that machines can’t.

CMI’s research consistently shows that organisations perform better when leaders have the confidence and training to lead with integrity. In fact, 81% of Chartered Managers say their management skills have improved and 91% report increased self-awareness.
