John’s expertise is crucial to those starting their careers in Property Agency.

All of our tutors at MOL are industry experts with a wealth of experience, bringing your learning to life using current examples of industry practice, and we’re introducing some of them in a series of Q&As.

With a career in Property Agency dating back to 1982, John King has worked in a wide variety of roles across all property types. He brings his expertise to range of Level 3 Property courses, helping those at the start of their career journey.

Tell us about your experience in the industry and/or education.

My front-line estate agency roles started in 1982. I initially trained in retail with Fenwicks when Brent Cross was new! I worked in sales and commercial for a small agency in Harrow on the Hill and was part of a team when Black Horse Agencies was formed by Lloyds Bank.

I’ve taken roles in residential letting, property management and block management so right across the field of all property types. I took a position in my later career with the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) in customer services, and as a Director delivering a quality service in England and Wales in the area of tenancy deposit protection.

I have extensive examples of listening to the daily workload trials of property professionals as they deal with the ever-expanding legal regulation that affects their clients. I have presented training up and down the country; face-to-face and via webinars, podcasts, and with MOL, in the live online classrooms.

How and why did you get into teaching?

I’ve always enjoyed helping and training those starting out in the property world. I’m passionate to support those coming into this testing environment, which is constantly changing, to ensure knowledge and experience to succeed is passed on.

Tell us why you're so passionate about your subject area.

The property market has seen some real benefits due to PropTech, but it’s still a people business. The challenge is being the best in your field with customer service. This is key to getting repeat business and standing above the competition. The next generation of estate agents need to be the best of the best.

What is the best piece of advice you can give to students who are considering studying a professional qualification?

Learning has to be enjoyable, not dry and difficult. It will be testing but be ready to ask lots of questions and be prepared to get things wrong, that’s when we learn the most.

Why should someone choose to study with MOL?

The courses are well designed by industry experts with easy access to tutor support and likeminded learners in the forums and with our live classrooms.
