What’s it like to study with MOL from abroad?

Thu 11 Apr 2024

Did you know that since the year 2000, the online learning market has grown 900%, and that the number of users in the online learning market is expected to reach 1 billion by the end of 2028?

The benefits of studying online are obvious. You don’t need to travel to a classroom or campus, meaning you can access content anywhere and anytime, whether that’s from the comfort of your own home, on the commute to work or even on your lunch break.

This level of flexibility offers opportunities to study courses from providers based in countries different from your own. For example, MOL is a UK-based company but we have learners based in at least 16 different countries across four continents!

To find out what it’s like for non-UK residents to study with MOL, we spoke to a couple of learners who’ve completed different qualifications from abroad.

Jacob Littorin – Sweden

Stockholm-based Jacob has ambitions to move to London and become a self-employed estate agent. To help him achieve this goal, he’s completed two Propertymark qualifications with MOL; the Level 2 and Level 3 Awards in Sale of Residential Property

It was the flexibility of the courses and access to MOL’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) that convinced Jacob to enrol.

He said: “It’s so good to be able to sit in the car, because I have a 40-minute drive to my work, and listen to the podcasts and learn that way, as well as reading the workbook through the VLE.

It’s accessible through my phone, so I can access all of the webinars, forums and podcasts. It’s very convenient and it’s very easy to keep a good balance.

“I can come home to my computer and sit down and read the workbook for 1-2 hours, then drive to work and listen to the podcasts, because they’re quite short so it’s easy. That makes it very convenient to just get in ten minutes of learning here and there.”

Khaled Shaker – Middle East

Khaled is one of 340 John Hopkins Aramco Healthcare employees to have furthered their professional development with MOL.

The Senior Talent Management Advisor flew to London for our graduation ceremony in November after completing a Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management, and is now studying for his MSc in Strategic Human Resource Management

Like a lot of online learners, Khaled juggles his studies with work and family commitments, including looking after his two young boys.

“There is a three hour time difference,” he said. “It makes all the difference because you have to stay up late.

“That's challenging, trying to put the kids to bed and then finding time to start the webinars. But if you want something really bad, you'll have to sacrifice and make the effort, and you get the reward.

Being online is different, but MOL are very supportive. They are quick to respond to my requests and the group I was with were fantastic, so credit to MOL.

"They are reliable, they have fantastic tutors and you really learn from them. They are someone you can trust with your development.”
