CMI Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management

Our Diploma programme has been designed for supervisors and first line managers who have operational responsibility for a defined area of activity, this qualification gives junior managers communication and motivational skills to help improve operational efficiency.
Length: 12 months (open course)
Time commitment: 7 full day workshops
Assignments: the qualification is vocational and does not have any exams – it’s all assignment based. There are 7 assignments in total (1 per Unit).
The diploma is made up of 7 units covering key management topics:
- Unit 1 - Being a leader
- Unit 2 - Personal development as a first line manager
- Unit 3 - Identifying development opportunities
- Unit 4 - Resource planning
- Unit 5 - Meeting stakeholder needs
- Unit 6 - Management communication
- Unit 7 - Managing and communicating information

You’ll benefit from our proven blend of learning methods, including face-to-face workshops with a clear workplace application facilitated by an experienced tutor. We’ll also give you comprehensive self-study materials including electronic content with activities accessed on our virtual learning environment (VLE).
You will also receive a learner guide designed to support you in your studies and direct support from your tutor.
Our workshops are clearly focused on knowledge and skills you can take straight into your workplace. Your MOL tutor will encourage discussions that help you get the most from the material. We select knowledgeable professionals to support and inspire you throughout the programme.
We’ll assess you through written assignments and practical skills demonstrations.
The programme has no exams and your MOL tutor will be on hand to support you through your assignment.
Unit 1 - Being a leader
This unit is about the leadership skills of those with first line management and leadership responsibility.
Unit 2 - Personal development as a first line manager
This unit is about personal development and planning, work planning, relationship building and team welfare.
Unit 3 - Identifying development opportunities
This unit is about identifying the development opportunities of individuals and teams in order to meet team and organisational objectives.
Unit 4 - Resource planning
This unit is about planning, modifying and managing resources.
Unit 5 - Meeting stakeholder needs
This unit is about identifying, meeting and supporting stakeholder requirements.
Unit 6 - Management communication
This unit is about gathering, analysing and communicating information.
Unit 7 - Managing and communicating information
This unit is about understanding the principles, methods and effectiveness of management communication techniques.

You’ll share information and ideas from real life, carry out activities based on true scenarios and begin to fully understand the how to implement your new found knowledge. The workshops take place in great city centre locations with easy access to town centre amenities and transport.
Our tutors are all experts in their field and will make sure that your workshop training really takes your understanding to the next level. They all have plenty of experience, working across multiple sectors in lots of different roles, which provides a useful insight for budding managers.
Roles you could hold after completing your CMI level 3 studies include:
- Supervisor roles
- Team Leader roles
- Manager (First Line) e.g. retail assistant manager
Our CMI qualifications fall under the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), which means that a learner has the ability to ‘top up’ the additional units required to achieve the next qualification within the same level.
A learner who achieves a Level 3 Award could do the additional 2 units required to achieve a Certificate.
A learner who achieves a Level 3 Certificate could do the additional 4 units required to achieve a Diploma.
A learner who achieves a Level 5 Award could do the additional 1 unit required to achieve a Certificate.
A learner who achieves a Level 5 Certificate could do the additional 4 units required to achieve a Diploma.
Also, once a learner has achieved a Level 3 Diploma the natural progression is onto one of our Level 5 qualifications.
