Conveyancing is a booming industry, with many people requiring property law experts daily. However, there are alternative routes to becoming a qualified conveyancer than just a degree.
If you’re wondering how to become a conveyancer without taking the lengthy and costly route of a degree, here’s everything you need to know.
Complete your qualifications quicker
A typical law degree in the UK can take three years of full-time education to complete. This can be very time consuming, especially for those who are looking to make a career change as mature students.
However, MOL’s Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) Level 4 and Level 6 courses are significantly less time consuming. Level 4 courses can take a year to complete full-time, or two years when studied part-time. Level 6 courses can take up to 24 months to complete, but are typically completed in a shorter time.
This means that you can gain a qualification that can kickstart your career in conveyancing in a shorter amount of time than a degree.
Study around your schedule
MOL provides the opportunity for flexible learning. Unlike degrees, Level 4 and Level 6 courses can be more flexible and accommodating to your needs.
If you are a mature student with responsibilities such as work and family life, our course tutors can make adjustments to ensure you are able to complete your course with ease.
Flexible online learning
If you’re nervous about returning to education as an adult, rest assured, MOL understands that you may have responsibilities that you need to work your education around.
Unlike the rigidity of university student life, our Level 4 and 6 conveyancing courses can be completed online, so you don’t have to worry about commuting to a campus.
You can complete your course from the comfort of your home or office!
CLC conveyancing course is subject specific
Although university law degrees can provide you with a broad range of knowledge surrounding law, conveyancing may only be a small part of your overall course. This means you may not get the in-depth knowledge of conveyancing you need to excel in a property law role.
Rather than spending thousands on learning about law that may not be relevant to your conveyancing career goals, you could opt for a or a Level 6 diploma that is specific to the subject of conveyancing.
This way, you are paying less for more knowledge and a more in depth understanding of conveyancing.
What are the career progression opportunities for conveyancers?
Depending on your qualification level and work experience, you can access many of the same career opportunities by completing a CLC Level 4 or 6 course as those with a law related degree. Some of these career opportunities include:
Senior conveyancer
After gaining experience as a property lawyer and conveyancer, you can take on more complex cases and manage a team of junior conveyancers by becoming a senior conveyancer.
Partner or director
Strong business skills and an entrepreneurial mindset can help you progress into roles such as a partner or director at a law firm. You will need lots of practical experience to progress into this role as it is a high position.
Legal executive
Some conveyancers choose to pursue a career in a specialist field such as commercial property or litigation.
Legal consultant
If you’re a conveyancer, you can pursue a career in consulting, and provide advice to clients who need advice on matters regarding property law.
Property manager
Property managers are responsible for managing matters regarding property, such as overseeing maintenance, rental and leasing of properties.
Why choose a non-degree route to conveyancing?
Statistics show that conveyancers in the UK make around £20,000-£45,000 per year. If you opt for the route of a degree, you will be paying around £9,250 per year, not including any maintenance loans and added interest.
Opting for a Level 4 or Level 6 qualification to pursue your career in conveyancing can save you money and can decrease your expenditure to income ratio.
Ultimately, avoiding a degree is a better investment.
MOL’s Level 4 and Level 6 conveyancing qualifications can give you the property law training you need to become a successful conveyancer. Included in the course is free access to West Law, which is a leading global provider of law, regulatory and business information, and analytics to support you through your course.
Our conveyancing courses include plenty of tutor support to help you achieve your qualification and reach your career goals.
