What is CIPD Level 7?

CIPD Level 7 is the most prestigious qualification you can attain as a HR or L&D professional. It’s an advanced diploma equivalent to a postgraduate/masters degree and the only level where you can apply for Chartered CIPD membership. CIPD Level 7 is best suited to senior professionals who need to develop and implement high level workplace strategies.

What does CIPD stand for in HR?

CIPD stands for Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.  This is the professional body for HR and People development. 

What is CIPD Level 7 equivalent to?

Level 7 qualifications are equivalent to postgraduate degrees and are the highest level of CIPD qualification you can obtain.

Can I do CIPD Level 7 without Level 5?

You don't have to complete Level 5 before starting Level 7.  If you have over 3 years experience in HR at a strategic level, then Level 7 would be the best option for you.

What are the entry requirements for CIPD Level 7?

There are no formal entry requirements, however if you have less than 3 years experience in HR at a strategic level, are not in a Head of HR role or have not completed any high level qualifications like a degree or masters - you may be better suited to CIPD Level 5.

The core units that will be covered in the CIPD Level 7 advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management are:

• Business research in people practice
• Strategic reward management
• People management and development strategies for performance
• Resourcing and talent management to sustain success
• Strategic employment relations

You will also choose one of the following optional units:

• Organisational design & development
• Advanced employment law in practice
• Technology enhanced learning

It is also possible to complete your CIPD Level 7 in Strategic Learning & Development instead of People Management.  The core modules for this course are:

• Work and working lives in a changing business environment
• Personal effectiveness, ethics and business acumen
• Organisational design & development
• Designing learning to improve performance
• People management and development strategies for performance
• Business research in people practice
• Leadership and management development in context

This will include one optional module between:

• Technology enhanced learning
• Advanced employment law in practice
