Adult Learning is a Challenging but Rewarding Experience

Learner Stories: Emily | CIPD MSc in Strategic HR Management

Emily's journey in adult learning with MOL Learn has been both challenging and rewarding, ultimately enriching her career in HR Management.

Emily Allen, who’s also Head of CIPD qualifications here at MOL, has always been passionate about learning. After graduating from the University of Sussex with a 2:1 in Anthropology, she took on administrative roles across various departments. It was during this time that she discovered her interest in Human Resources (HR).

After graduating, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do next. It was during my administrative work that I became aware of HR and decided this is what I wanted to do.

Emily continued her education part-time with MOL, attaining CIPD qualifications at Levels 3 and 7. She even completed a Masters in Strategic HR Management with MOL in 2017.

"I genuinely love learning and am always setting myself new goals. This led me to undertake a Masters in Strategic HR Management with MOL."

In her role as Product Manager, Emily is responsible for all the HR programmes MOL runs, ensuring learners get the best possible experience. She believes that adult learning is a great achievement and is passionate about it.

Adult learning is something I am passionate about. Working full-time and studying is hard work, but it has helped me grow as a person.

Emily feels that learning has become more rewarding and fulfilling as she has gotten older. She now has a greater understanding of the topics that interest her and can delve deeper into them.

For those considering adult learning, Emily advises choosing a topic you're interested in and finding a study partner for mutual support. "If you're considering adult learning, choose a topic you're interested in. It takes a lot of will power to study after a full shift or week at work."
